27) Core and Shoulder Stabilization
(DVD, 50 min. 2001) - Matt Wren, M.S., P.T. - This is two presentations on one disc
– rents as one title. Matt Wren, is a physical therapist, and former national competitive
swimmer.
Core Stabilization – Presents the biomechanics and fundamental concepts of why
good posture, body control and core stability are important to swimming. The series of
18 swiss ball exercises are specific to the balance and coordination issues of all 4
competitive strokes. Each exercise is explained in detail. The program is clinically
effective at assessing and correcting the posture and body control problems that may
go unnoticed in the water.
Shoulder Stabilization – Explains, in medical terms, why shoulder injury is so
common in swimming and how posture and body control issues can be the underlying
cause of the problem. He presents 9 “big bang” exercises to avoid injury, based on his
clinical expertise and years of working with injured swimmers at all competitive
